Trying to play Sonos favourites using: PlayFavorite : name
This works unless there is an "&" symbol in the name. I have tried renaming the favourite but that nets the same result.

You could try doing a search and replace before writing it to the field. Try maybe replacing & with & and see if it makes a difference.

& didn't work. Doing a search and replace wont help because it's writing the value to the driver that is failing. I was hoping changing the favourite name would be enough but I guess the name change is only superficial on the Sonos side.

There should be a way to do it. That information ultimately gets put into some XML that goes to the Sonos. And an amp is a special character in XML. I was assuming that by doing it that way, you could get into the XML OK. Try turning it into
&
I.e. a doubly dereferenced ampersand. That might be required.
