Ron,
Just my 2 cents. I was in a very similar place as you...had not touched my CQC setup in 4 years or so and it was showing its age. Was using MyMovies along with a Sage HD200 as my media repository and renderer/player. That setup broke and with Sage not being support until just recently, I decided to try the autogen system along with Plex. Unfortunately for me, Plex does not play/read VOB files, which is what all my movies were ripped as.
So i've been using MakeMKV to transcode all my DVDs and Blurays. Its been a slow process, I do like 5 movies a day, but the Plex setup is pretty nice. Its supported across many platforms (iPhone, Xbox, Roku, etc) and the server system with media recognition has been pretty bulletproof.
I almost quit when I realized I needed to recode my whole library, but it has not been that bad. I've kept my VOB rips on a separate hard drive, so if I ever change repositories again (God I hope not), I'll have those already.
