Is there a way to use my Android tablet, and have it open up apps on that tablet? I was thinking the easy way might be to have a button on my Tablet within the CQC Interface that would open the app, and then when I close the app I would be back at the CQC Interface for whatever else I wanted to do.

There is a 'passthrough' command for RIVA clients that lets you pass certain commands to the underlying operating system. Not sure though which ones the Android RIVA client implements. You might have to check its documentation for that. It was mainly added for just that sort of thing, to invoke a URL so that it's opened in a browser, but the actual RIVA client has to make use of it.

Ron,
Just my 2 cents. I was in a very similar place as you...had not touched my CQC setup in 4 years or so and it was showing its age. Was using MyMovies along with a Sage HD200 as my media repository and renderer/player. That setup broke and with Sage not being support until just recently, I decided to try the autogen system along with Plex. Unfortunately for me, Plex does not play/read VOB files, which is what all my movies were ripped as.
So i've been using MakeMKV to transcode all my DVDs and Blurays. Its been a slow process, I do like 5 movies a day, but the Plex setup is pretty nice. Its supported across many platforms (iPhone, Xbox, Roku, etc) and the server system with media recognition has been pretty bulletproof.
I almost quit when I realized I needed to recode my whole library, but it has not been that bad. I've kept my VOB rips on a separate hard drive, so if I ever change repositories again (God I hope not), I'll have those already.

Yeh, I've been slowly re-ripping mine as well. Even for a fairly small collection like mine it's going to be a while before it's all done. I don't have nearly the storage to keep the originals, so I'm just removing the old ones as I do the new ones. I figure that, worst case, any new device or setup is likely to be able to play MKVs.

as long as youre transcoding them into h.264 with AC3, the container won't really matter.
all of my media is h.264/AC3/AAC and i can run between mkv and mp4 in seconds; literally 60s for a 1.5hr movie, 30s for a TV episode. reason? the Roku will sometimes get hung up on MKV and simply changing the container fixes it.
it's quite easy to create a queue with Handbrake, so as long as you have the space and cycles, just toss your media in there and wait. it might take a few weeks depending on library size, but once it's done you're golden.
