your sched/triggered/tasker/IFTTT events
#1
Decided to scrub my entire event list down to just what I use. This is my remaining list. There's a few automated lighting ones I need to re-build with my new sensors, plus I think I might add some based on temperature in/out of house.

Wondering what y'all do.

Child Safety
When (kid with Android) gets home and phone connects to home WiFi, phone auto-texts me plus informs HA server she’s home.
When (kid with Android) leaves home and phone disconnects from home WiFi, phone auto-texts me plus informs HA server
When (kid with Android) gets within 100m of school as per GPS, phone auto-texts me plus informs HA server she’s at school
When (kid with Android) leaves 100m of school as per GPS, phone auto-texts me plus informs HA server she’s left

Security System:
Upon set to ArmedAway, text me + turn off all lights/stereos/etc (HA Server)
Upon set to ArmedStay, text me + turn off bedroom/other lights (HA Server)
Upon set to Disarmed, text me + set HVAC=71 in winter (HA Server)
Upon Burglar Alarm, text me + flash lights, blare music (HA Server)
At 8am turn on chime (sound if a door/window is opened) (Elk security panel)
At 9pm turn off chime (Elk security panel)
If water leak/flooding in basement, text me (Elk security panel)

Presence Detection
If security system says no motion in a room for (x) mins, turn off lights (HA Server)

Power Savings
If LivRm stereo turned off, turn off TV
Every night at 3am, turn off lights, stereos, TVs
At sunrise, turn off outdoor lights

Automated Lighting:
If doggy door closed, turn off backyard lights
On motion in crawlspace, turn on basement light

Phone only events:
When placed in car cellphone dock (NFC Chip), start up CarHome app and text-to-speech all inbound SMS or Hangout messages
When at work (GPS), put in vibrate mode, turn off WiFi
When near home, disable WiFi

online monitoring events
if kid posts on instagram, email me
if i’m tagged on a FB photo, save a copy to google drive
add fitbit daily steps to GDrive

here are some of mine. as always they are a work in progress. i have been conversing with the wife about getting an Elk, which might be on my todo list in the near future and will hopefully bring reliability and the ability to do more with sensors.

Lights:

turning light on in kids room (via Tap) after sunset and before sunrise only turns the light on RED at 35% unless using emergency scene
there is no way to turn your partners night stand light on after sunset unless using emergency scene
sunset +15 turns on evening scene, evening scene ramps down towards 9:30PM
5:15AM nightstand light ramps up over the course of 15 minutes (this was a bitch).
no motion for 300s turn off lights (specific rooms, i dont have a lot of motion yet)
motion going up stairs turns on stairway/landing lights for 60s (flaky)
using Tap to turn lights on manually will turn them on at particular dim levels depending on time of day
i try to keep a consistent luminance level on main floor through day
i try to keep lights (when on) matched color temp to time of day

Presence:

bloom in LR on and off with presence unless part of scene (rarely)
when bloom off, turn on 'Away' scene and lock door BUT if door open, dont do any of that (super flaky, lock barely works)
nest Away mode turn on Away scene

Audio:

play local radio tunein station in morning for weather/traffic/music
TTS using edcast/icecast reminders for taking out garbage and recycling weekly

HVAC:

if door/window sensors are open, turn off Nest
keep Nest pseudo-synced to outdoor temperature, if high > 75 put target temp to 75, if high > 80 put target temp to 74, if high > 85 put target temp to 72, if high >90 put target temp to 70. this experiment went horribly wrong, culminating in a $600 electric bill. wheeeee!

My events -

Alarm Armed / Disarmed - Send e-mail
Alarm Goes Off - Same + phone call to my cell

I have a BetaBrite sign in my garage, and when I set the alarm it shows exactly how many seconds I have left (countdown mode) to get the garage door closed. Does the same when I open the garage door to show me how long I have to disarm.

I have a motion detector coming up in my walkway outside, if motion is detected, it turns on the outside light, switches the TV's in the office and the bedroom to the security cameras so I can see if it is worth getting up or not.

I have a three small fans in each of my wiring enclosures, and they kick on when the A/C unit is not cooling the closet.

I have a lot more to do, I just never seem to have the time.

I'll just list what different in this game

Alarm indication on screen with audible alert for septic tank, electric fence and if alarm armed a text message.

Camera motion creates an audible alert and TV invokes PIP to show camera image.

Light switch w/ IR triggers a goodnight scenario where everything is turned off (TV's, lights etc), garage doors closed etc. TV channel is changed to the channel we watching the morning and the volume set to a lower level for morning viewing.

UPS low battery level shuts down CQC server, all other VM guests and then shuts down ESXi server.

Light switch button in theater turns on everything ready for a movie. same button turn everything off as we walk out.

AC turns to outdoor vent mode if outside air is lower than lowest setpoint temperature. Ceiling fans turn on when AC in that zone is turned on (every room is a separate zone).

I try to task repetitive tasks so its all automatic.

Alarm system arming invokes a similar scene

All I have that isn't listed...

  1. When I walk into the kitchen during the morning tell me the weather stats for the day
  2. I feel like there should be more...

When I walk into the kitchen in the morning, the lights turn on,my alarm shuts off, my TV turns on the Today show, and my Sonos announces Good Morning.

BTW, I have created a "Guest Mode" that shuts these rules off. Before that I would get up in the morning to find friends sleeping on the couch with lights and TV on. They would try to turn stuff off and it would turn back on and they would finally just give up... :-)

interesting. so enabling guest mode sets a persistent variable or something, which your events check for before running?

i could really use this.

I use a variable driver field for guest mode and whether we're on vacation or not. Events check these before running.

Wuench, how do you get the Sonos to say good morning?

You can do TTS through its analog input I guess.
