Apple buys Dark Sky...
#1
This sucks... I can foresee Apple either turning the API off completely or monetizing the hell out of it.

Weather forecasts, maps, and embeds will continue until July 1, 2020. The website will remain active beyond that time in support of API and iOS App customers.

That API will no longer accept new signups, though “service for existing customers is not changing today.” The API will function for existing customers through the end of 2021.

IBM bought one, so I guess Apple needed to keep up with the Joneses.

I just got an email saying that the Dark Sky API will cease to work on March 31, 2023. What are people using for weather now?

It's not as bad as people think. If you have an Apple Developer account (~$100 per year) you get access to the new WeatherKit API and 500,000 calls to it per day.

I did an OpenWeatherMap driver with their newer JSON feed (OneCall API) a couple of years ago. Similar to DarkSky but had a few things it didn't provide. I have been using DarkSky for most of my weather data, but use the OpenWeatherMap driver for predicted rain totals that Darksky didn't have.
