Server Hardware for WebRiva
#1
Hi All,

I haven't done much with my CQC install in a year or so, but I am excited to get back in to it since I see there is a good way to move the interface to iPhones.  I currently have my one and only CQC server running on an old PC with a Core2 Duo with 2GB of RAM.  It seemed to run fine when I had a couple of standard clients connecting to it.  I am a little worried that it may not be enough horsepower if I start using a couple of WebRIVA clients in place of the standard clients.  I have a couple of newer PCs sitting around that have 4 cores and I can put 8 or 16GB of RAM in them to use as a new server if need be.

What are your thoughts on the WebRIVA impact on the QCQ Server?

Also, any issues with going to Windows10?

If these questions have been vetted in another thread, just point me to them.

Thanks for any input,
Dan

The old system probably would be a struggle. But of course you can spread things out. You can install just the web server on the bigger machine and use it as the host for WebRIVA clients and keep the main machine still as the CQC Master.

Windows 10 is fine. Most folks are probably using it at this point.

I'm using an Intel NUC NUC6CAYH Mini PC. Intel Quad-Core 2.3GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and Windows 10 Professional 64Bit.

Also, I always disable un-needed services and use O&O ShutUp10 to disable everything that Microsoft feels they need to control (windows updates, etc.). Auto updates on Windows 10 are terrible and you have to use this software to disable it.

I am running essentially the same as you - a 2007 Dell Optiplex 745 computer w/ 4GB RAM for the last 11 years (but upgraded to Win10 Pro).  I have had no issues running CQC there.  I just checked and Task Manager shows between 6-10% of CPU Usage for the CQC Services, and this is with about 35 drivers installed and running.  I also have 2 full time Win10 clients interfacing with it along with a WebRiva client on an occasional basis.  I would give what you have a try, and if it seems slow, then upgrade.  I keep thinking I need to upgrade but when I see how little the system uses, I just go with what is working.

Seems reasonable. I went to a NUC because I was previously trying to get CQC to work on a Windows 10 virtual machine running on a Mac Mini (VMWare).
