Aprilaire T-Stats Issues
#1
I had been running the following on the V1 Aprilaire driver for some time:

8870 T-Stats (3)
8818 Distribution panel (1)
8061 Module (3)
8811 Protocal Adapter (1)
8051 Flushmount Temp Sensor (5)

On many occasions I had the driver lock and the tstats would lock on whatever condition that they were last in.
So if the A/C was running it would run no matter what the temp was.  If the system was off it would never run no matter the temp.
I would cycle power on the Distribution panel and then all would work again until it locked again.
It would run fine for days, weeks or months but would always lock at some point.

I started pausing the driver after I made an adjustment then I would un-pause when I needed to update and then re-pause when I was done.
Not ideal.

Has anybody else had similar issues?
Is the V2 version more stable?
I know these T-Stats are a little dated.  Should I punt and go with something else?

If the thermo itself is locking up, then I doubt the V2 driver would help. I may be misunderstanding your post, but it sounds like the thermo itself is locking into a particular mode. That would probably cause the driver to to stop responding because every attempt to talk to the thermostat is timing out.

If you just are asking would the V2 driver recover better when you have to cycle the power, I'm not sure about that.

Not sure if the issue starts in CQC or the Aprilaire but the thermos would lock only when I had the driver un-paused and running.
When I kept the driver paused the t-stats would work fine.

Well, I guess could imagine some sort of issue where there's a problem in the little serial distro board or something would just get hung up due to ongoing serial activity that would occur because the driver is operating. I couldn't imagine the the driver being able to to lock up the thermostats in any other normal sort of way. I.e. even if the driver ran wild in some way, if you paused the driver the thermostat should go back to working normally. The thermos thermos themselves locking up would sort of seem to require some issue on the thermostat side.

I know that IVB used the Aprilaires and had some issues with connectors working lose over time or something like that. Have you checked all the connectors and made sure that they are still solid?

I have 1 or 2 Aprilaire that i'm no longer using. Worked "fine" except for every time there was even a little tremor the wires would come loose. Got sick of it. Want one? PM me your address.

I just recently had the same issue with the furnace stuck in the "on" mode.  I powered both Nest t-stats off and the furnace continued to run.  Next I powered down the zone controller and the furnace shut down..  I really don't know exactly what caused the issue but I think it had something to do the zone controller.  It has not happened again.

BTW, I changed out my Aprilaires for the Nest t-stats.
