I saw this discussed elsewhere. There are hints it will break the UPnP interface, though maybe not all parts of it. If so, we may be screwed. I'll take another shot at getting access to the new API.

More discussion seems to indicate that the change is related to searching online streaming sources, which I don't think would too much affect our stuff. We don't really provide that functionality.

The new API is still, after all this time, apparently only available by invitation from Sonos, and there's not even a means to request to be added to that rarefied company that I can see.

And yet consumers are more and more moving to streaming services. We only listen to Spotify or local radio stations streamed on tunein here.

The thing is, supporting a streaming service isn't like writing a driver for a Sonos box. They tend to require agreements with the service and money and such. Sonos sells a huge number of boxes. But I guess maybe they are in a similar situation. They also have to have agreements with streaming services and some of them are probably more interested in being competition than playing along.

As of this moment we listen to both Spotify & Amazon Music. However Amazon's announcement that they won't let you listen to music you own and uploaded, only stuff purchased, as of 2019 makes us likely to ditch Amazon Music and also go Spotify only. Or perhaps another service that allows us to upload & stream music from the cloud, while creating and maintaining playlists on different mobile devices. while also easily allowing offline playback.

Google All Play has worked great for us. One family plan that I share with my wife and 3 kids. Each person can upload their own music and have their own favorites / playlist.
