I just got a nokia n810 and I put rdesktop on it.

When I run it it asks for the RDP server which I assume is the name of the machine I am trying to connect to, then I entered the username and password for the remote machine, I left Domain empty and when I click OK it seems to close and nothing happens? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
When you say nothing happens, do you mean that the login screen disappears, and nothing else happens (ie no RDP connection is ever made)?

When that happens on the N800 or N770 (I haven't used a N810 yet), it is usually because there is no internet connection already made. You have to start the internet connection first and then start RDesktop. RDesktop will not startup the connection automatically like the web browser and other programs do. If there is no connection, it simply fails without giving a reason or even a notice that it failed.

So it sounds like that might be your issue.
I did connect to my wireless network before trying to login to rdesktop. But after entering the login info the login box just disappears and no connection seems to be made and there is no error message. I have installed version 0.4 is that the correct version to be using?

Thanks,
give this version of rdesktop a go it's much nicer, also there should be some pointers in this thred...

Thanks Will. I did find some information there, but it appears others have had trouble getting this to work as well. I have been messing with this thing for hours and haven't been able to get it to work. This is the whole reason I bought it.

I can connect to the internet with it, but I can't rdesktop or pyrdesktop to work. I am just about ready to throw this thing against a wall.
OK, let's try to get it to start via the command line rather than trying to use the start menu.

I'd ask that you try to load and install the RootSH and OpenSSh program on the N810. You can find instructions on how to do this from the N800 RDP Thread. The first couple of paragraphs should explain how to do that. It should be basically the same for the N810 as it is for the N800.

Once you get that installed, then open the OSSO-Xterm program. I believe it is in the Utility folder on the menu. Once that opens, type in
Code:
sudo gainroot
then type this line to get to the right directory
Code:
cd /etc/osso-af-init
then type in
Code:
rdesk -f -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD -z IP_ADDRESS
Where USERNAME = the user name on the computer you want to log into
PASSWORD = the passwork of the user you want to log in as, and
IP_ADDRESS = the IP address of the computer you want to log into.

Hopefully that will start the RDP connection. Let us know how it turns out.
Thanks for your help. I was reading the forums at internettablettalk and someone had suggested upgrading to the latest version of the OS and once I did that pyrdesktop started working.

Thanks again for your help,
Rajeev

Just a note of caution (might be good for you)...

Nokia are about to release their new Internet tablet... you should now be able to get an n810 25% off

IMHO if you only want the tablet for CQC then the n800 is better as you have more hardware buttons you can map...

I have an 810 which is better if you want to use it as a browser too as you get the keyboard.

hope that helps, for news http://www.internettablettalk.com
