1. The 'sort by artist' in CQC does not always match the sorting in the Apple iTunes Application. For example, for Doobie Brothers, in iTunes, it is sorted under "D" for "Doobie". In CQC, its sorted under "B" for "Brothers" - - which is definitely counter-intuitive. Can this be adjusted either globally to match that of iTunes or individually to fix a particular artist?

2. On a template, I use a Media Image Widget and Dynamic Text Widgets to show the album art of the selection playing, the name of the selection, etc. But when I stop the CQC Audio player by sending the Stop transport command, the last image displayed stays displayed in the interface, as does the text in the dynamic text widgets, i.e., the name of the song. Then, next time I load the template again, its still there until i make another selection. When I send the 'stop' transport command, I want the text and Media Image Widget to default to a .jpg image or blank text, etc. I assume this is possible, but how?

Thanks as always.

I'm thinking you would have to send a clear command somehow.
It sorts by last name. But a band has no last name, but it doesn't know that. One thing you can do is, in iTunes, do it as Doobie^Brothers, to force the driver to treat it as a single name.

That's still the active song even if you press stop. If you play, that's what is going to start playing again. So it's one of those things where some folks would want it one way probably some another I guess. But currently all of the renderer drivers work that way. The song that's currently at the top of the list is what is shown as the active song, whether it's actually in play mode or not.

That's not really acceptable.

There are a lot of artist names that do not fall in the Firstname Lastname category. (The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, DJ TheMax, ... )
They would have to be renamed to The^Artist^Formerly^Known^as^Prince, and the like.
I want my song information to be accurate, and cannot go update the many many entries because the repository driver has a quirk.

Why not have a switch to turn off this Lastname Firstname sorting business?
I think it would be easier for users overall:
Today, where do you find "The Bee Gees" under T, B or G? (answer is G)
Where do you find Bruce Springsteen? (Answer under B: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band)

Carefull with the other option to skip an initial "The" in sorting (like place The Bee Gees under B) because there are other languages where it's another pronoun that is used. French: La Esterella (=The Esterella), Dutch: De Kreuners (= The Kreuners)

1. What if it just sorted by first name? Can it be set to do that with a switch? Would that work? It seems that iTunes does it that way.... and iTunes does ignore the word "the" when sorting (but stefand does raise a good point).

2. Ron also raises a good point. Can I program the template to send some sort of clear command after the 'stop' transport is transmitted? Or... at least if nothing is playing, can the template initially be brought up with no images or text? It is kind of not ideal to see the title I played days ago when I bring up a template days later to play a title.
Dean,

I now the sorting issue has been brought up a million times, but I also have to ask if you can change the sorting.

Every program I've ever used (e.g. itunes, WMP, j-river) all sort artists by first name, leaving off articles. Everyone these days looks for Billy Joel in B not J.

How about just using states and hide the artwork and fields if the player is stopped. If you want to show a default image then have those show on the stopped state and overlap them in the IV.

I do something similar for DVD's. If a DVD is loaded I show the artwork, if now, I hide it and show a "now loading..." message.

Brilliant. Ill try that.

I agree with this. If I am wanting to find Air Supply I would except to find it under the A's not the S's. Same with many others that fall under this.
Kirk - One Question............Air Supply??
