Has anyone looked at Hue for lighting?
#1
I just came across this and it looks reasonably priced considering you don't have to mess with buying light switches plus you can change the color of the light. Any chance we will be able to control with CQC?

Looks sweet, though I'm spent on lighting.

Someone needs to get the starter pack and report back. You have been elected Smile

I would but I am broke. :-(

Wish I could get a free sample to evaluate. :-)

We have replaced all of our lights except for about 10 with LEDs already @ $9.99 a pop.

I wish I could change the colors on a whim though.

You can;t do anything with it yet.

I asked the question monhts ago regarding integration and there is nothing available. YOu can only control it via the iOS/android app.

They claim there is an API that will be released (just like NEst said as well), but don't hold your breath - it will be many years before we see one if at all.

Shame really as integrating it into a larger control system is where you will see some of the real benefits of having a Hue system

How can they change the colors? Is it a special bulb?

Its a RGB bulb with ethernet built in (wireless mesh network).

$10 each is so cheap. I need dimmable LEDS that are sutable for leading edge dimmers and they are $70+. That means its cheaper to stay with halogen.

I have been buying mine from Lowes... they are dimmable too. :-) I have been using them with Insteon dimmers.

what style of dimmer is the Insteon dimmer - leading or trailing.

I also need 230V for Aus so it does not help me either.

Some dimm-able LED's create a lot of noise on the line which can eventually fry the dimmer.

Apple is the sole distributor at this point for Hue. I'm not sure what that means for integration purposes. We all know how Apple likes to lock down everything they touch. I guess we shall see. Of course someone could probably re-engineer the commands since it is internet based.

I think my wife is getting a little tired of hearing this :-)
