Tray Monotor Stop service action

Dean - Well due to the issues with loading iTunes previously reported, I stopped the CQC service via the tray monitor last night. I thought that I was stopping just the Application Server only to find out this morning, when none of the screens would work, that the little button stops the entire shell service. Is this the intended action?

Yeh, it's intended to provide a convenient means to stop/start the service. If you want to stop the Tray Monitor, just use the Exit command to exit the Tray Monitor.
