Riva screen blanker on CF.NET
#1
I've decided that my iPaq battery just doesn't cut it anymore, so I've now pulled it apart and mounted it on a wall plate. I should've done this a year ago!

But the issue I'm having at the moment is that since it will now be permanently powered without any buttons showing, I need to take care of the screen saver. But I'm not sure the CF Riva client plays nice with the backlight.

FYI, I'm running Riva 1.3B1 with CF 3.5 on a HP iPaq rx4540 with Windows Mobile 5.0.

If I turn on the CQC screenblanker (from the OnLoad event), after the timeout, the screen blanks and the backlight turns off. All good. But when I tap the screen, the picture comes back but the backlight stays off. This is with the OS settings backlight always on.

If I remove the CQC screenblanker and use the OS backlight timeout, the backlight turns off after the timeout, and it comes back when I touch the screen. However the image stays on permanently.

So I guess I'm left with two questions.

1. Is this a bug in the Riva client, CF3.5, or my iPaq?

2. How much of an issue is this? Am I being too cautious about wanting the screen to blank? Does the backlight turning off while the image is still being displayed assist in avoiding screen burn?

Is anyone else seeing this? It may be some CE version specific thing or something, or it could be a problem with the .Net RIVA client.

Screen burn-in is non-existent with an LCD screen. It's only a problem with a CRT display and some older plasma screens, neither of which are in an iPaq.

Guess I'll just leave off the CQC screen blanker and leave the image on then.
Although I'm still curious as to what is causing this to happen, and if its just me or others see it.

It's actually to the point that once CQC turns off the backlight, I need to reset the iPaq to turn it back on again. No pushing of buttons or adjusting of control panel settings can turn it back on
