Sony Bravia driver
#1
So, I'm looking at a driver for the Sony Bravia line of TVs. As TV protocols go (i.e. they all suck) this one is pretty decent. This thread is for discussion while I work out the issues.

One obvious issue is that I assume these don't all have the same inputs and options, right? If so, I'll want to do a base class plus per-model derivatives as has been done with other drivers that have to cover a range models but with common protocol processing.

So I'll need to know what models I'm doing and what specific inputs and such that they support, so that I can create the derived class and manifest for it. For inputs, it supports up to 1000 HDMI, 1000 composite, 1000 component, and so forth. Obviously we don't want a generic list of 5000 possible options.

I'm going to be sticking to basically V2 basic stuff, but we can throw in a few other bits if they are really important.

Mine is the model XBR-65A1E it comes in 3 different sizes that are designated by the numeric value after the dash number but all same protocol. I suspect the XBR-65A8F series and XBR-65Z9D all also are similar enough too. Power, HDMI inputs , Netflix button if possible, cursor control buttons, Menu, exit , transport control buttons, home/menu button, display/discover. would be great .

I need to know all of the inputs, so HDMI1, HDMI2, Composite1, RGB1, RGB2, TV, etc...

For the simulated IR commands I'll probably just add them all and if you send one that isn't supported by your model most likely it just gets ignored.

I have
4 x HDMI
1 x Composite
1 x Component
1 x DTV

Model is KD-65X8500E

These also support a serial connection as well - there is a serial port on the back (3.5mm stereo plug)

DTV isn't a listed type. It has TV, HDMI1-9999, SCART1-9999, Composite1-9999, Compontent1-9999, Mirroring1-9999, and RGB1-9999. Which one of those would DTV be?

Most likely TV since it does not have an analog tuner.

mirroring is also on the menu - I just thought that would be separate to the physical inputs. not sure how you select 1,2,...999 input for mirroring though

I was thinking DTV was the PC RGB input that is listed in the protocol document.
Anyway my inputs are the following:

HDMI 1 through 4
Channels (TV)
Video
Mirroring

I notice that when I select the internal ROKU app or built in Chromecast app it also switches to HDMI 1 so not sure if that is all done internal or if there is a specific command for that .
