Default Sony bdp-sxxx blue ray / video streamers

Gents - wondered if anyone was interested in looking at a driver for these ?

sony have written an android and iOS app that can control the player, and it can play web / uPNP content, so would make a cheap display platform.

i have one - and it's not listening on 80 443, 22 or 21 so i've no idea about it myself ?
specfically BDP-S370 (there are others in the range)

Based on their 400 disks changer, they are likely using UPnP with their own non-standard calls, which is trickier to access than a simple serial/socket protocol...

Their Firewire based DVD changers use a proprietary library, that they never really exposed. It's based on a system by another company who chargers a fairly large amount of money to get access to the info. Some folks worked out the bulk of the protocol just from trial and error and using the low level changer driver IOCTL calls on Windows, and I played with that a bit as well. I'd guess that these use the same? Maybe there's some UPnP wrapper around that low level interface or something, I dunno.

But, it's just seemed to likely that these changers are doomed. They are going away pretty rapidly. So continuing to do the work seemed a bit of a waste of time. Folks used them quite a bit not so long ago, but most of our customers seem to have been tossing them overboard.

Obviously for Firewire it's a little more interesting since there are so few good software options for Blu-Ray.

I'll get some wireshark traces and see if i can make any headway...

i kinda like this device as it has access to the bbc iplayer which is a pain currently if you want the hd service, on a big screen.
