Default Popout and popups - Feature requests

Hi Dean,

I am redoing my interfaces in 1.7.19 and I must say you have done an incredible job. The popups make such a huge difference in creating cleaner and nicer interfaces.

I was wonder if it would be possible to add the following features?

1. Control the speed of the pop-out (make it a configurable value?)
2. Specify the relative position of the pop-up as opposed to the central of the screen?

Any chance these could incorporated in 2.0?
Thanks,
Panos

Is it too long or too short now?

Not sure what you are asking here. Currently you indicate where it should pop up relative to the origin of the template it will be popped up from.

BTW, you can use the Copy Point item in the popup menu to copy a point and then paste it into the popup origin.

I don't know if this will help... but I found that the size of the Roll Out will directly effect the speed. I made some of my Roll outs small and they come out fairly fast.

They do need to be kept fairly small. The problem is that, in order to support translucency, the template has to be drawn over and over again, one for each pixel of travel during the slide. There's no way to make it go faster except to move over more pixels at a time, which will make the slide less smooth. So they really should be kept pretty small.

Is this for the popup or popout?

Sorry, for popups, it's just centered. For the popout types, you indicate a corner that it's going to slide out from. So you were referring to popups?

Yes...can we also have the popups to come up at a pre-specified location?

That would have to be a future feature thing.

Thanks Dean,

Out of curiousity what makes the sliding of the pop-outs faster? Better CPU? Graphics card or better network speed between client and server?

It's pretty much a CPU issue. It's a lot of drawing and redrawing and moving image data around during that. Though, having an up to date graphics card that handles bitmaps and alpha blending really efficiently would help in some cases.
