Default DNV viewer - Memory problem

Hi,
After browsing quite a few cover art images on my PDA I get an "out of memory" exception. I guess some cache has run out of space....any ways around this?
Thanks,
Panos

Have you reduced the size of your cover art? They can often be way larger than required. There is a FAQ entry on the web site about optimizing cover art browsing and reducing the size of the images. It's not unusual for them to be 80K or 100K or more, when they can be a couple K for browsing purposes. There is a tool in CQC that will bulk reduce them, and the FAQ entry discusses how to use it. It will also help substantially on the regular IV.

This is another of the subtle but useful advantages to our own repository in 2.0. It scales down the images as they are uploaded to the server.

yes cover art is reduced using the method in the faq section. each cover is around 5k-9k. My PDA RAM is 35MBs before i execute the handheld DNV. My templates are about 100K each and I have 7 of them so far. I have around 13000 files.

What are the specs of your WM device as far as memory goes? I can reduce the size of the cache (propabably make it configurable) to avoid this error...

Mark,

It's an Acer N311 with 64MB of RAM and 128MB for program storage. Is the cache held in the RAM?

Is there anyway I could use some memory from the Program memory for the DNV cache?

Thanks,
Panos

ache as well as all other template info is in the RAM; There is no way to use the program storage. As I implement the 2.0 features, I'll add a cache size limit so that you can tune the number of images cached to avoid the out of memory issue.

Thanks Mark,
Out of curiosity what other features will you be implementing in 2.0?
Thanks,
Panos

Step one is to get the same functionality as currently exists with the new command and widget structure. Step two will be the popups and possibly the use of templates in overlays.

I presume you mean overlays?
