CQC Voice Use cases - IVB - 05-27-2018

Wondering what folks are doing with CQC Voice. The onslaught of nightmare articles about the Echo (plus my emails with JKMonroe) make me want to remove them ASAP. Right now we mainly use the Echo for the following items, i'd need to replace with CQC Voice functionality.

- What is the weather & forecast in (one of 2 cities). Should be easy.
- What is the time. Should be easy.
- Turn on/off (x) light. Should be easy.
- Play (artist/album/playlist). This might be tough if I have to code for every option.
- Set an alarm for <x> minutes. Not even sure how to do this in CQC, but we're CONSTANTLY doing this in the kitchen.
- How much time left in my alarm. (see above)

Given the privacy issues i'd certainly give up the alarm stuff, but it would be nice not to.

Not sure what else I could do, hence the post.

There is a remind me to do X in Y minutes command. Here's the phrase list documentation:

Oy just remembered, CQC Voice only works with the Auto-gen stuff, correct? As in, nothing with a V1 driver?

I never could get auto-gen working. I guess I need to try again.

Also IIRC, a Nest setup without air conditioning (heat only) does *not* work with Auto-gen, right?

Yeh, CQC Voice works in terms of the room configuration that is also used for auto-gen. You don't have to actually use the auto-generated templates, it just uses the same data.

It's not the auto-gen, it's more does it make the Nest driver thermostat support fall over maybe. Since the V2 definition of a thermo includes both set points, it may cause problems if the driver is trying to ask for set points that don't exist. Hopefully it just puts those fields into error state, but I can't remember right off hand. I'd have to look at it. As long as it shows up as a V2 thermo, auto-gen/voice wouldn't care. Both would allow for manipulation of the missing SP, which would fail if you tried it of course, since they both assume it exists.

well, i can't actually select it in the Global.HVAC info, nothing shows up when I click the "..." in the popup.

Is anyone else doing anything other than the above with CQC Voice?

OK, so the driver is treating it as a V1 thermostat most likely. If you open the driver monitor tab for the Nest driver probably you'll see it there but as non-V2 compliant fields?

This is something that needs to be dealt with, but it's messy. We can't change the V2 thermo spec. We could extend it, but this would be going the other direction, reducing it. So I'm not too sure about how to cleanly deal with that. I've thought about it a good bit, but no great ideas have occurred so far.

RE: CQC Voice Use cases - IVB - 05-28-2018

OK. Not terribly urgent, if I can get the above use cases to work I'll yank the Echoes. Temp can always be controlled via the Nest App.
