  ZoomPlayer & Variables
Posted by: IVB - 06-08-2006, 12:02 PM - Forum: CQC Support - Replies (31)

I know there was a post somewhere talking about this where I posted jpants document, but for the life of me I can't find it. Anyhow, he's updated the document, and emailed it to me as he doesn't have a mechanism to post it. Here it is, and here's the description of it.

Jpants Wrote:I rewrote the Zoomplayer and Varible doc to include how to use zoomplayer as a preview screen to view songs while another is playing. I wrote a macro for it called ZoomHelper and it has both macros in it and should give insight on using varibles, macros, xlat, and ZoomPlayer.

  AutoPatch 4YDM Configuration/Setup
Posted by: pglover19 - 05-26-2006, 02:25 AM - Forum: Installation/Configuration - Replies (12)

For those who already have the AutoPatch 4YDM and use it for whole audio and video distribution what is configuration (24X24 BNCs or Audio, 32X32 BNCs or Audio, etc.) Also how are you controlling the AutoPatch remotely (CQC and touch screens?)? Can someone share how they are routing video and audio through the AutoPatch 4YDM. I am a novice, so be very detail.

Help me control my HP TV, figure out this document...
Posted by: beelzerob - 05-23-2006, 05:40 PM - Forum: General Automation - Replies (22)

I own the HP Pavilion MD5880n HDTV, and LOVE it. Now getting into HA, I was pleased to discover the RS232 port on the front of the TV (ALL the connections are on the front....very clever).

Nothing in the users manual mentions serial control of the TV. In fact, it and the USB port next to it are listed as "Maintenance only". They do use the USB port for firmware upgrades (which I enjoyed recently). nevertheless, I decided to email tech support and ask them if I could indeed control the tv through the RS232 port.

Shortly after that, they actually emailed me a spreadsheet containing various hex codes and information and told me that YES, you can control the TV through RS232, and here is the info to do it.

Here is a pic of the spreadsheet. What you see is all info there is on the sheet...the rest of the sheet is just codes for various functions.

Well...having looked, and looked, and looked again at the spreadsheet, and sending a ton of little bits through the RS232 Hex tool into the TV...I still can't get anything to happen.

Anyone have any idea to try? The spreadsheet doesn't mention baud rate, data bits, etc, nor anything else that would lead one to believe RS232 is possible...but the techie who sent it to me said twice it was also useable for that. I was wondering if perhaps the "36 KHz" converts to an applicable baud rate....maybe the serial bits have to arrive at the same speed as an IR signal.

Any help??

Newbie... completely lost and starting to panic
Posted by: Blinger - 05-23-2006, 12:44 PM - Forum: Installation/Configuration - Replies (35)

Well, maybe not completely lost... but it sure feels like it. I have a new home (2400 sq. ft.) under construction and will be wiring it this weekend with 3000 ft. Cat6, 1500 ft. RG6, and ????ft. Speaker wire.

When it comes to home automation, I'm an utter newbie to the point of never even seeing an X10 light switch, much less the high dollar setups, so please bare with me here.

I plan on running home runs from a downstairs closet to each room in the house (2 Cat6, RG6) as well as speaker wire for ceiling speakers in four rooms. My questions are probably simple, but here goes:

1. Do I run speaker wire from the closet to the wall switches in each room and then from there to the ceiling speaker locations? I don't know what system I want (don't even know what all is out there!) so maybe I should run Cat6 from the closet to the switch as well?

2. I see you all talk about all the "keypad" options, but I don't have a clue how CQC communicates with them? Anyone have any pics of the entry level keypads that allow you to change source, increase volume, etc... basic functions?

3. Am I missing a controller or something? I just don't see how CQC communicates with these switches. If I change the source on a keypad, I assume there's some IR activity if serial connectivity isn't an option. How do you handle IR over the whole house?

4. For the dimmer switches, I was originally planning on using Insteon switches, but I see little to no mention of them here. Are they supported for direct control by CQC or do you have to use Homeseer as well?

That's it for now, but trust me I have several more questions if you all don't mind.

About to buy a bunch of cables and adapters....
Posted by: beelzerob - 05-23-2006, 08:48 AM - Forum: General Automation - Replies (20)

I'm about to buy a handful of various serial cables and adapters from monoprice.com. I HATE finding I don't have the right cable/adapter when trying something. To hook up my receiver, I had to go to Radio Shack to get a gender changer...and then a null-modem adapter. For the price of just the null-modem at radioshack, I can get two 6-ft null-modem cables from monoprice.... Confusedhock: (good thing radioshack has a return policy...)

I'm going to do a little mini-stocking of things I'll need, since monoprice gives discounts for purchases of more than 1, and combined shipping lowers the overall cost even more.

Soooooooo...for those who've done HA for a while...is there any particular thing I should get more of than other things? For instance, if you've found that 90% of the time, you just need a straight (non null-modem) serial cable with female on both ends...then it'd probably be smart for me to get more of those than other kinds of cables.

At this point, I have:
2 X 6-ft female/female null-modem cable

I'm looking to probably get:
2 X 6-ft female/female straight-thru cable
4 X F/F gender changer
4 X M/M gender changer

Any other suggestions? adapters/cables to emphasize? Thanks!

What to do during pwr on delay
Posted by: rritchey - 05-21-2006, 04:30 AM - Forum: CQC Support - Replies (19)

My AE900 ignores all cmds for few secs after receiving its pwr on command. This means if you try to power on and then say switch input, the input command gets dropped. Is there a way to handle this in the driver?

Thx, Ron
