I found a deal on slickdeals for the LG LCD 70 series TVs. They have sold out of the 46" size, but they have the 52" size for $1599 (http://shop4.frys.com/product/5618481) and the 42" size for $999 (http://shop4.frys.com/product/5618631?) both with free ground shipping.

Great prices for these two TVs and there is already a CQC driver (http://www.charmedquark.com/vb_forum/showpost.php?p=92553&postcount=15) for these 70 series TVs.

BTW - these are 120hz TVs as well.

Just thought I would let others know about the deal.

Edit - the prices have gone back to "normal" so I listed this deal as dead.

Nice prices. Wow, who'd believe a 52" LCD for 1600? AND shee fripping?

Does anyone have one of these? I'm wondering if they are using the high-gloss screens that a lot of new LCDs are using ... you know, almost as reflective as a plasma display.

I've checked the AVS forums and found that it does NOT have a reflective screen, in fact it has a very matte finish - similar to Sharps screen. So reflections should not be an issue with this TV.

The major complaints about LG in the past has been less than perfect black levels and poor viewing angles. This set seems to be an improvement in both areas. I did pick up a 52" set for my parents. It was just too good of a deal to pass up. I'm not sure this set is going to be this low even on Black Friday, so they decided to get it now rather than waiting and taking a chance that it might not be a better price.

Other then powering the TV on and off do you get a lot out of the CQC driver?

I run sagetv controled via CQC. I do my muting and volume control via sage.

I guess if you have multiple sources you could switch sources.

Maybe I could fire up picture in a picture with my security camera when the motion goes off out front.

Anything else anyone uses the drivers for the TV for?

I have a Denon that acts as the switcher, it's hooked up via component for my Pio TV.

1) automatically turn off the stereo if the TV is turned off while the stereo input is in "DVD" or "TV" mode.

2) Same thing in reverse - if someone manually turns off the stereo, then turn off the TV.

IIRC, the TV draws something sick like 250W, so every minute that someone forgets to turn it off is a huge energy suck.

The protocol for the LG's is very comprehensive (possibly the best). Basically it better than the remote. Direct input selection is possible.

The PIP function is something I am going to implement once I get the camera going and it is possible with the LG.

The pain is that the protocol changes often changes slightly with each model, and there are some flaws in the documentation.

I have never been able to get direct tuning to work, and some of the IR-Remote-Codes-over-serial don't seem to work (but others do fine). Of course it could be the (my) driver.
