If you have touchscreens around your house, set the screensaver using this program:

http://www.serenescreen.com/

It is ABSOLUTELY the most REALISTIC looking virtual fishtank in the world ever invented. Its $20 bucks. So when your CQC IV is not in use, your panel is a fishtank. It even makes the bubbles noise.

Laugh, but I tried it and its awesome!

I didn't laugh when I saw your post, I have been running that exact program on my main CQC touchscreen since I installed it a couple of months ago! It is also feeding a VGA input on a 32" LCD TV which means I can have a large fishtank and no maintenance!

Man.... now i gotta go get that other aquarium. It is better!!!

I just tried it on my 50" plasma above the fireplace and it rocks!!! That new aquarium will be up and running the next time company comes over.

Now I just need to get a CQC driver for the tank so when the doorbell rings it feeds the fish!

It's not stupid at all! I've had it running on my main TS for over a year now and not tired of it. Once someone even asked how do I feed the fish! You can see it here (http://stevescocoon.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=167&g2_imageViewsIndex=2). The other does look nice, but its only freshwater and I find salt more interesting.

a little off topic question

My new TV has an RGB input, but the resolution is not one of those that my video card has an option for. I remember someone somewhere mentioning that there was a bit of software that allowed you to create custom resolutions, but I cant find the reference for it anywhere (I dont even know which forum I read it on).

ANy clues - THe kids and wife would love to see the fish on the screen.

Mick,

I think what they use is "Powerstrip". Here is a guide to set it up.

http://www.audioholics.com/showcase/DIY/powerstriphtpcp1.html

I don't use it but based on what I have read, be very careful to follow the instructions exactly. Apparently you can get various settings off enough that you can't recover too gracefully!

If you experiment with custom resolutions be sure to define the safe mode resolution as one that will work on at least one of the connected displays. By default it is invoked by ctrl-alt-s.

I'm not sure I want my touchpad to be displaying something that INVITES strangers to tap on it!

Ummm, don't think that would happen, that's why its called a 'screen saver' ;-) . Don't know about the other one but serene screen does move the background as well and guarantees against burn in. Now if your pc locks up with that image on it, well then you just may have shadow fish on the screen.

Very cool but something is stopping the screen saver from kicking in on my HTPC on its own :-(

Nah - its just keeps cycling the tanks on the registered version, so loads of different background and nothing static for any period of time.
