Thanks,
On this one I'm using a carbon fiber and dark grey steel PS style.... It took me all day to get this far but as soon as I get a couple of the other templates ready in PS it should go fast. I think I'm going to try some dif layout styles from what I've done in the past and see how they look.

I'd definitely use a slight drop shadow (the one on the Base tab) on the white button text, to give them a little 3D'ish feel. Just a little would do it, i.e. make F3 just a dirty white or light gray perhaps.

Dean, I think it helped a lot5... i went black on the drop shadow... do you think it was too much?

Ron, those are really nice. You're becoming quite the Photoshop wizard. One suggestion if I may. I like the sublte touch of connecting the inner frame with the button, but it may be a bit to subtle. Maybe just changing the text color of the button on the frame that your currently in?

I assume you are talking about.... when the projector template is selected have the text change color so that it is easy to see which template was selected. I can do that easily by just selecting another text box and having the text go to green and hiding the original white text. I will try that tonight. I wish that there was a way to use the checkbox wizard and change an image according to which template was loaded instead of a driver... in some instances a driver indication is not appropriate. Thanks for the suggestions.

Well I think I have the Projector looking better now.... I also put a Glow around the Projector Overlay to make it stand out a little more and a LED that shows you that this template is on )in this case it was driven from the power field but in some like the Horoscope it will always be green but you will never see the LED till the template is brought up :-). This really isn't a criticism because I truly like what you did with this, I am just not thrilled with the LED marker, it just looks like a lost dot on the template. I still kinda think highlighting the words somehow would work better, at least imho.

I tried the Colored text and i wasn't successful:-( ... You see the center Overlay only gos up to the text. If I make it go all the way I don't think the Buttons will work for exiting back out. The Only Way I can think of is to make the same command widgets for all the buttons and load them on each template. I added another Template and I put a Blue Light behind the active Template. Is that enough to differentiate the Template from the rest?

Just some brainstorm ideas... You said the overlay goes up to the text. First, what if you change the green LED (which just looks like some sort of status indicator light) to say maybe an arrow and put it more toward the text like right at the border?

If you did a little vertical gradient at the top of that dropdown, that would probably make it look more like it was coming out from under the thing above it maybe. You might have to play with it to make it look right. But just to shade towards arker subtly as it comes up to the top. But the concept looks very good in general.

It's hard to get it across in words, but I meant just at the very top to add a little a darkening of the original one. Not to apply a gradient to the whole thing or to get rid of the nice looking original drop down. But to just darken just the top, starting above the buttons and getting darker going up or something like that, so that it looks like it's going under the line above it.

Yeh, something like that. Maybe you could add a slight flair out at the top, kind of like the active button, to blend it in more or something. Not too much since that would make the whole dropdown wider which would require more oomp to drop it down smoothly.

Here is an example of Bedroom 2.... in this zone the denon receivers are not needed as this is a stereo non HDTV Zone that is fed from the Russound only. All Russound functions are in the LCD at the top... in addition you have the Tuner readout from Zone 2 of the Denon if you wish to listen to the radio. the denon FM Roll Out is still in place but the Volume Roll out is now switched to the Bed 2 zone of the Russound.

Personally, I think that you'd be better sticking to that common stop of drop down instead of having some that go one way and some that go another. It would make for a more consistent look and feel and user experience.

The only reason I did that one that way was I had read that there was the possiblity of being able to view the video on the touchscreens in the future and this would be less intrusive.. I also like the full page overlays better.

Is the text on your buttons imbedded graphics or static widgets? The reason I ask, is if someone wanted to use this template set as a baseline and didn't have the same source/zones names as an example, would they need photoshop to modify or use the Interface editor to just change a text widget?
ellisr63
01-20-2007, 10:32 AM
The text that is embedded in the templates is the large 1, 2, 3 and the HBO logos (these are in the blue buttons) the rest are either png images (I did have some of the exit text embeddeed but I think I changed all them) or straight text from CQC. I could remove the imbedded text without too much work. :-)

I doubt there's a simple answer to that one. I'd do it with a php or asp script (assuming you're running your own server). That script would open the page you have displayed above, get the URL (since it likely changes) then imbed it with a height and width tag to stretch the thing. PHP makes reading HTML extremely easy (it is just like opening a file) so that's how I would do it. I'm fairly certain you can probably do it with ASP but I'm not 100% sure.

The CQC web server can do that easily. It's similar to what the SwizzleURL macro does when invoked via the web server.

I'm not sure what you are asking there? There is a web widget, and it can display a page served up by a web server, and we do provide a web server that can serve up pages. But that's all obvious stuff so I assume that you are asking somethng else.

In my personal opinion, that lowers the "classiness" a great deal. What's the worst that happens? They click Cancer instead of Saggitarrius, and have to try again?
They might actually have fun "deciphering" the symbols... or having a conversation like "what month werr you born in... you're either x or y"

Try copying that layer and paste it, so that you have two. Then change the bottom one to a light gray and shift it down/right one pixel. That should give a nice relief type look.
Another option might be to create the second layer beneath, set it to a light gray, and add a slight amount of gaussian blur.

Thanks for the offer. I'll go through them and let you know. One thing I noticed is that it would be helpful to me if the circular buttons on the HDTV Local interface were not part of the background image.
