I have never setup a web server so this might be a stupid question...

I setup my widget for my radar image and directed it to "//audio-rack/radar.htm"

it loads through CQC :)

but my radar htm is not updating:(
I have it set in CQC to update and my old direct shot to the site was updating fine.

here is my HTM file..

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Radar</TITLE>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<META content="MSHTML 6.00.2900.2873" name=GENERATOR></HEAD>
<BODY text=#000000 bgColor=#000000 leftMargin=0 topMargin=0 scroll=no border="0"
marginheight="0" marginwidth="0">
<DIV align=center>Radar_files/MUX19_0_t.gif </DIV></BODY></HTML>

What am I forgetting or doing wrong?

Assuming this is your radar image:
Radar_files/MUX19_0_t.gif

How often do you pull down a new MUX19_0_t.gif? You need a mechanism to do that. Alternatively, if that's a gif that you simply copy off a web page somewhere, why not link to that? i.e.,
www.bigdaddyron.com/weather/MUX19_0_t.gif

IVB is correct. Link to the web page .gif from within your own web page. Your own web page only pulls that .gif when you reload your actual web page. When you reload from within the CWC widget, you are simply reloading your own web page, but your own web page is not reloading the .gif. Mine currently works using the manner IVB suggested.

How do I do this? I have no idea :(

Just realized you had the URL in your code.

Make the following your image tag:

<DIV align=center>http://radar.wunderground.com/data/nids/MUX19_0_t.gif </DIV></BODY></HTML>

Note that you never need to actually download the MUX19_0_t.gif onto your box - just go grab it when you want to display it.

IVB is right (again). You need to insert the URL in its entirety including the quotes.

On your CQC web widget, update it every 2 - 4 minutes. So you get the latest radar images.

Thanks, I think it is now working :).... I set CQC to refresh every 10 minutes since the site is apparently only refreshing every 10 min. Is there a way to get the animated weather that is on their site or is that a lot of problems?

Ron

I originally had it set for every minute... but when I was looking at the clock on the display, it was updating every 10 min.

Well, you are in luck. I just travelled down that road. Yes you can get the animations:

1. Do a google of radar sites in your area. I have found that going to the TV news stations are a good source: For now, try here:

http://weather.wjz.com/auto/wjzV2/Region/Northeast/2xRadar.html

2. Now, look at all those beautiful animated maps. Make one larger (click on the thumbnail), say, my favorite which is here:

http://weather.wjz.com/auto/wjzV2/Region/Northeast/2xRadar.html

3. Right click on the actual map, and select properties. You will see the URL address. Highlight it and copy it - - sometimes you need to scroll to get the entire address so be careful. Fot the example under # 2 above, the URL is this:

http://radblast.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/radar/WUNIDS_map?station=LWX19&brand=wui&num=6&type=N0R&frame=0&noclutter=1&t=1145997213&min=2&delay=30

4. That URL is for an animated map. Copy it into your web page and check it out (actually, just click on it above).

5. That URL will refresh everytime you refresh your browser. So, using the IVB method above, insert that link into your own webserver webpage.

6. Insert your new webpage into the CQC web widget.

7. With some luck, you'll get maps that refresh alot quicker then every 10 minutes.

Look at all those beautiful animated maps on the site above. I have a separate CQC web widget for each one that loads into my template as an overlay.

Let me know how it goes.

Here is another hint. When you right click on the image, look at the dimensions for the image. To get the best clarity when you make your own webpage, you can set the height and width as follows:

[insert link here]
</p>

So, you can resize to the same aspect ratio. If you want to shrink it, use a program (I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager) that will allow you to insert the custom pixels, and when you shrink it it lets you maintain the aspect ratio and reports the new numbers, i.e., if you shrink the height value, the program will tell you the corresponding width value. I know somewhere in CQC you can do this but I forget where.

You cant use that image. Apply the same technique above to these images:

http://weather.cbs5.com/auto/kpixV2/Region/Southwest/2xRadar.html

Looks like the CBS affiliates use the same sort of webpage templates. So now you have maps to your hearts content!!!!

Here is the image you want, among the various there (click below)

Ok, here is what it looks like... My black window is 630x435. I need the image larger, with no scroll bars and a black background. How do I get this to that point? When I click on view... source is greyed out, since this is a GIF.

Got the animated radar working fine now... I also got the web cams to have a black background and no scroll bars. The way I got the web cams to works was to rename the radar htm file to San_Jose_web.htm and insert the new url, then they worked fine but as soon as i put the radar.htm file back my radar image was back too. My CQC path shows the San_Jose_web path and it still goes to the Radar image. what Do i need to do to be able to have my 2 web cams and my animated radar image work? Here is my San_Jose_Web source file..

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

No problem. Its a great feeling. If I were you, what I did was make an overlay for each map on that link I posted and then create a web widget on each overlay. So in CQC you will have an overlay for each map and on your server you will have 1 web page you created for each map that is embedded on the web widget. Then, on your interface, create command buttons to insert each overlay on the viewable area of your interface. In other words, you can have a button for each map and you press it to bring up each of the maps.

Yup that's what I did early this morning.. And the traffic cams now work too. The only thing is... I really liked the other animated radar better, but since it won't work I'll live with what I have now (what I liked about the other was it seemed more natural... rather than silver mountains). Thanks again for getting me up and running on the Animated Radar and web cam. And a big thanks goes to IVB for getting me setup and hooked on CQC :)

I use the Weather Underground version and this:

http://wwwghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/get-goes?satellite=GOES-E%20CONUS&lon=-80.66038&lat=28.25414&map=standard&zoom=4&info=ir&palette=ir.pal&mapcolor=black&quality=80&width=400&height=300&type=Animation&numframes=10

You can customize it using the info from:

http://weather.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/getsatellite.html

I still have not figured out a way to get rid of the scroll bars.

I still have not figured out a way to get rid of the scroll bars.

You can either use the swizzleURL macro or imbed the URL in your own local html file with SCROLL=NO in the header.

Mikla
11-15-2006, 04:42 PM
Neither method would work since I need to load the whole page, not just an image. Swizzle has the <IMG src="url"> embedded in it so it just loads a page that has a body tag that does not have scroll turned off.

I tried a modified version of Swizzle based on what I did below, but for some reason I got a server error (at the URL server so I know it was hitting the page).

I settled on just using an inline frame with the code below:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" rightmargin="0" bottommargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scroll="no" border="0">
<iframe src="http://wwwghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/get-goes?satellite=GOES-E%20CONUS&lon=-80.66038&lat=28.25414&map=standard&zoom=4&info=ir&palette=ir.pal&mapcolor=black&quality=80&width=400&height=300&type=Animation&numframes=10" width="400" height="400" align="middle" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>
</body>
</html>
